Orion Launches its Pre-Entry Touch-Free Temperature Reader to Improve Safety Across Industries
Laconia, NH – Orion Entrance Control, Inc; an award winning New Hampshire manufacturer is introducing their latest innovation. The Orion Pre-Entry Temperature Reader (OPTR) was developed to support businesses in their COVID-19 return-to-work strategies. The OPTR just launched to the marketplace on Thursday, May 28th. OPTR’s infrared sensing technology and intuitive user interface can be put into use with virtually no training. A 1 second read time (3-5 seconds per person with proper social distancing) and high level of accuracy provide superior throughput. The advanced monitoring capabilities, programmable messaging and alerts allow decision makers to customize their process workflow. OPTR is currently offered as a free standing kiosk. There will also be options offered for turnstile mount, wall mount and stand-alone desktop.
Using 75-85% recycled aluminum materials, the OPTR is assembled in Orion’s 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Laconia, with many of their fabrication sources kept local to New Hampshire.
The monitoring software that integrates with the device is customizable on many levels, including scanning for and displaying a specific temperature range. Employers can decide what message to show on the screen when temperatures run out of range (in most cases “see the help desk” or “return home until feeling better” is popular) Built in relay outputs can be integrated so if an employee’s temperature is out of range, their door or gate card access can be shut down – effectively barring entry. Future versions of the device will offer push alerts to managers about employees not allowed to pass.
Though the OPTR is not technically a medical device, the results are accurate within half a degree, with hospitals and retirement homes requesting them. Orion specializes in control access products across a myriad of industries from businesses to event centers, sports teams, educational facilities and public transportation. Temperature scanning can be integrated into turnstiles and speed gates so a temperature reading can actually control whether the gates open or not.

The Orion Pre-Temperature Reader is available for purchase at MSRP $5400.00 or lease $197.00 for 36 months which includes 3 year warranty, yearly factory calibration and software / firmware updates. The OPTR currently holds a 6-week lead time.
